What are you afraid of?

Do you have a counselor?  Whether it’s sports, career, marriage or life in general, the role of a counselor is a necessary component for success!  I spoke with a few individuals this weekend about relationships and the necessity of getting some guidance to help them succeed and the response more often than not was, “We don’t need a counselor.”.  My question today is, “What are you afraid of?”.

What I’ve experienced in the counseling field is that people are apprehensive of seeking counseling for several reasons:

  • Not willing to deal with their reality
  • Exposing hidden truths
  • Lack of coping tools
  • Co-dependency
  • No self-worth
  • Lack of understanding

Why do  you go to the doctor?  You go because something is physically not right with your body.  It is that same reason that you should seek out a trusted professional to aid you when your life is out of alignment.  I gained so much insight about myself during my studies in Temperament Counseling that I’ve become a Licensed Counselor.  The benefits is brought not just to me but my marriage, my relationship with my children and even my career path has been greatly impacted by receiving the truth concerning my inborn and how God created me to cope.

Today, I want to challenge you to seek out the help that you need for any area of your life that you may be struggling in.  Anything that you’re facing at this moment should not keep you captive from moving forward and being a success.   Stop being afraid of the unknown; find a trusted counselor, face your situation, develop a strategy for change, and EMPOWER yourself to succeed!

I’m Salty and I’m Glad About It!

Matthew 5:13-16 reads, 13 “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage. 14-16 “Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. (MSG)

Many of us, because of “stuff” have lost our God-flavor and we need to get it back.  We must be restored from what was ailing us to fulfill our purpose in the earth.  Our teaching this evening will focus on our need as Kingdom Ambassadors to be “Salty”.  Join us and be Empowered!

Take The Mask Off

Masquerade parties are said to be exciting,  you have the opportunity to hide behind a mask – pretending to be someone who you’re not.  At the party a mask is required but what about those who walk around day-to-day with a mask on and there is no masquerade party?  Masquerade by definition means, “an action or appearance that is mere disguise or show”.  I understand the concept, I really do but in our day-to-day lives – when are we going to be daring enough to take the mask off.  What are you  trying to hide or who are you hiding from? Are you operating in  ill intent or have some hidden agendas? What is it?

What I’ve experienced in life that when you’re constantly altering your outward appearance, there is an internal struggle.  At a masquerade party – it’s a mask or a wonderful costume; in day-to-day living – it’s changing you hair color; eye color; hair style and other things that give you a sense of acceptance.  Today, let’s be real and take the mask off! Can you be honest with yourself and face your truth?  A sister friend of mine recently shared on her blog talk radio show from the topic, “How To Live When You Ain’t Right Within?” In a word – POWERFUL!  Her dialogue was in line with my thinking – you’ve got to take the mask off and accept the reality of your presence and if you don’ t like what you see – make the necessary positive changes.  The mask is only affording you to live a lie and what is that going to profit anyone?

When you think about the impact that your life has on others, and trust me it does – you’ve got to walk in truth – its paramount!

Let’s make this affirmation together:  Today, despite what I’ve endured in my past, I will face my reality.  I am strong, I am at peace, I walk in truth and I will be accepted for who I am.  If I can help someone by revealing my scars, so be it – because it’s not even about me. Today, I will face my reality and take of the mask.  I feel better now!

Today, promise me that you’ll be You – no mask, no hidden agenda. You, the gift that God has given to the world to bring forth His glory!  You, the beautiful, talented, gifted, anointed one.  Yes, YOU!  Let’s take off the mask, embracing that we are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of Christ . Take the mask off today and be empowered.
